The world of fashion is not bounded by age. Age is just a number. If you have heard this proverb, you know that it’s never too late to become a fashion icon, particularly in today’s age of social media and influencers.
You might have noticed that most of the latest fashion tips and trends expressed and promoted online are related to youngsters. It appears so rare that ladies going above 60 have any desire to look for elegant style and fashion trends.
But you must understand that this is not true! Just because you have lived through a certain number of years, does not mean that you can’t try the latest trends anymore.
Although there are some styles and trends which look better on the younger generation, but there are a large number of styles that us senior ladies can comfortably adapt while looking sophisticated as well as attractive. In fact, the fashion style for women over 60 means finding a perfect balance between feeling comfortable and looking elegant too.
Styling Tips
- Go for outfits that strive for elegance and grace. Wear classy outfits.
- We recommend you go with outfits that nip in the waist.
- If you are using a belt, then go for a wider one. In case you have them, a thin belt can make your bulges prominent.
- Do pay special attention to undergarments. Know your size, get well-fitted ones.
- Go for vintage and statement jewelry. You probably don’t want your arms full of so many bracelets and your neck filled with chains. Keep it simple but smart.
- Forget about what people say you shouldn’t wear. Wear whatever you want to as long as you’re comfortable in it, but in case you want to compete with the age fellows, follow a few simple tricks that we have gathered for you.
Here we will share the 30 most impressive and super comfy outfit ideas to the ladies who reached or going just above their sweet 60s, along with the best fashion and style tips that you must keep in view.
Waitt…
There are so many more tips hitting ky mind, and I don’t want you to miss them. Read a few more here
- Now by this time you have seen all fashion trends and have lived in them to the fullest, if there’s any that you loved the most, try bringing it back.
- Create your personal style and be the fashion icon yourself.
- Don’t be afraid of following new trends, look up to celebrities of your age group, and take some inspiration from them as well.
- Shorter hair is easy to carry and looks great at our age. Dye them regularly in your favorite color or just embrace your grey hair as grey is always in fashion.
- Do your nails, manicure and put on pretty nail colors.
- Don’t be afraid of wearing bold colors, floral prints, skirts, and sexy outfits. All you need to know is how to carry yourself.
- For casual outfits or everyday wear, go for comfy sweat pants and T-shirts. You can still wear your favorite logo or graphic T-shirts for casual wear.
- Wear peplum and wrap dresses for a slimming effect when it comes to formal wear.
- Wearing the right makeup is important, you might need to buy some new products if you’ve been using the same foundation and other products since the last few decades.
- There is no limit to dressing up. Dress young, feel young but do embrace your age and shape. We all grow up; we all age. That’s how the cycle is.
- Wear block heels, wedges, pumps, loafers, and sandals as per occasion and outfit demands.
Casual Wear Over Sixty
↓ 35 – Add A Pop Of Color
Transform even the dullest of outfits with a pop of color like with these gorgeous blue pants and scarf.
↓ 34 – Go For Statement Sleeves
Puff sleeves are everywhere this season and they surely look great at our age.
↓ 33 – Never Too Old To Wear Denim
↓ 32 – Leopard Prints
As we said before, it’s never a bad idea to take inspiration from the younger lot and Beth Djalali beautifully proves this point with her Kate Middleton-inspired outfit that comprises of a leopard skirt and a black top.
↓ 31 – Church Outfit
Here’s a beautiful Sunday mass outfit by Mary Graham, who’s definitely an inspiration for women in their 60s so you should follow her for more ideas.
↓ 30 – Work Outfit
‘Aging with style’ is the key concept that you must bear in mind while going to shop for office wear. You can opt for bright and vibrant colors or go for cool pastel shades in your outfit selection, depending on your personality. White pants or jeans are must-have for your wardrobe. White is an iconic color and mesmerizing too in its overall hues. An apparently too bright top would look cool with white bottom, and pastel shades would look lovely if paired up with white.
You can wear your most loved pearl jewelry along with the work outfit and look elegant in it. The tip is to tie your hair in a neat bun. It will give you a classy look while adding brightness to your personality. For an in-depth discussion on this topic, check out Office Style For Women Over 50.
↓ 29 – Bright Colors
A most common ageing stereotype is to wear dull colours only, or you would look out of the way. It’s just a misconception because every colour is available and looks impressive if you manage to style it appropriately. You can team up black pants or leggings with vibrant shirts of your choice, and it will look gorgeous without any doubts.
If you already have a dull-colored outfit, brighten it up with a beautiful scarf with all the radiant colors, and it will cheer up your complete personality.
↓ 28 – Maxi
Summer is the best time to flaunt your style by choosing bold colors in maxi or long skirts. Just because you are going above 60 does not mean that you should have dull and drab outfits.
A maxi is an easy to wear and comfortable-to-carry outfit that you can opt for in the hot summer days. It is also available in a large number of prints and designs to express your own style and personality.
↓ 27 – Party Outfit
While going to a night out or a formal party, you must remember to wear the outfits according to your age elegantly. There is a mistaken perception among many ladies that if they wear a party dress suitable for a younger girl, they will make you look more youthful. The reality is that you might look older than you are if you do not select your outfit carefully. You can choose to wear a graceful long gown in a slim fit, and full sleeves with a piece of elegant pearl jewellery and people would love to appreciate the great shape you are in or the glowing skin or the beautiful haircut.
↓ 26 – Plus Size
Being over 60 and being plus-sized too is very frustrating for many of us. It becomes too difficult to shop for appropriate yet stylish clothes as there are hardly any options to buy from. There are certain styles of garments that you should avoid wearing being curvy and mature too; floor-length largely printed dresses, long A-line shirts, and loose, shapeless trousers.
You can opt to wear single-coloured slim-fitted pants. It might sound boring, but they will make you look thinner and younger too. The shirts with the slender style and small-sized printed designs are the best outfit options for you. A monochromatic outfit style range will make you look stylish and classic
↓ 25 – Winter Outfit Ideas
Slim-fitted jeans or leggings is must have to adorn your winter attire. The idea of wearing all thick and heavy pieces of garments to make you cozy and warm can be modernized by wearing slim-fitted jeans, a warm tee, and a long warm duster coat or cardigan. This will give you an asymmetrical look.
You can add a colorful or just red scarf to cover your neck and look stylish too.
↓ 24 – Lovely Winter Outfit For The Day Out
You can manage to look stylish and elegant by following some really basic rules. It’s important to wear rightly fitted and well-stitched clothes that define your waist, no matter big or small. Avoid showing too much of the skin, too short top or skirts would look inappropriate. Always wear a supportive and well- fitted bra. It will enhance the overall appearance of your Outfit.
↓ 23 – Work Wear
You can wear a decent black and white striped collared shirt along with a high waist white skirt. Pull a smart blazer over it. For accessorizing, add a beaded necklace and go for open-toe pumps.
Or play with textures and your favorite colors to create quirky looks like the one shown below:
↓ 22 – Soft Fabric Outfit
Here’s an elegant outfit that is a mixture of Eastern and western that you can enjoy wearing in your early sixties as well late sixties. The white shirt and trousers along with the chiffon cardigan and scarf look so decent. Moreover, don’t forget to accessorize your attire with a pearl necklace and studs. The silver stripe sandal and coral nail color add five stars to the look for sure. I also recommend that you have a look at these Fashion Tips For 60 Plus Women.
↓ 21 – Fresh Spring Floral
Don’t ever think that age can stop you from wearing your favorite prints. Wear a floral top with shorts and a pink sweater. Top it off with block heels and chunky accessories.
↓ 20 – Casual Wear
Casual everyday outfits are what we need to invest in the most, irrespective of our age. We assume you might have many by now but if you think you are falling short of lovely everyday gears then try this one. A softly colored top with some lace along with black pants and sneakers (you can wear denim, jeans, sneakers, joggers even your sixties, hence don’t hesitate). Pop up the look with a delicate chain in your neck and a smart wristwatch.
↓ 19 – Evening Wear
Hello, elegant ladies. You need to have formal wear in your wardrobe as well. You might think that you don’t have enough to socialize, but we assume in your sixties you have more time to socialize, meet your friends, host dinners and celebrate the birthday parties of your kids and grandkids. For occasions like engagements and weddings try wearing this bold red dress with beads and slight embellishment. Add a diamond or Swarovski necklace, bracelet, and studs. Don’t forget to wear your favorite pair of heels and grab your clutch. A little red lipstick will not make you look over the top but the right shade will be stylish and enchanting.

↓ 6 – Denim Pants
↓ 5 – Midi Skirt
Consider wearing a black and white midi skirt to the next grand party you are planning. Pairing this outfit with single strap black sandals and a few pieces is a great choice.
↓ 4 – Get Together
↓ 3 -Sleeveless
The skin often gets loose when you age, and that’s normal, nothing to be ashamed of. You can still wear sleeveless. A blue shirt with white palazzo pants, especially in the hot summer is a great choice. Adding statement jewelry will surely help you step up your style game.
↓ 2 – Celebrity Style Over 60
Celebrities are style icons since forever and till forever maybe. Have a look at this black embellished dress that you can wear for any fancy gathering.
↓ 1 – Grey Maxi
This grey maxi looks beautiful when paired with matching accessories. Don’t forget to put on makeup to feel fresh.
↓ Shop A few Looks
- Some women want to keep things a bit carefree. Go for a plaid shirt, grey pencil knee-length skirt. With this outfit cream-beige, pointed-toe smooth pumps will be a smart choice.
- Wrap a simple white pinstripe shirt and pair it with black trousers and caramel color cardigan. Don’t forget to shop these graceful shining black leather flat shoes.
- Shop these black capri pants and stay classy and comfy in them. Try them on with a striped tee and black flats.
- You might love to wear this comfortable-fit cream-blush. Try carrying it with a white pencil skirt and pink sharp-toe strappy flat footwear.
Outfits for old ladies? Shame on you!
Well, Vanessa, perhaps you are a young lady and you will find that as women age they might have difficulty with finding a style that suits them and their changing lives. No one is shaming anyone. A person can’t be shamed for growing older because it is certainly the one thing we all have in common. Just wait, Vanessa. Just wait.
I don’t think Vanessa was objecting to fashions for older women, but rather the title chosen, referring to mature women as old. Pretty insulting!
Tori that exactly how I took vanessa’s Comment as well.
I’ve reached an older age and I’m old now and I don’t mind. Nor am I insulted, I’m finally getting some respect . People ask my opinion. Yes, they want to listen to my opinion! I have perspective. My long-term memory is excellent the short-term is just ok. And I don’t have to worry about cat-calling, grabbing, jealousy, mean stares and all that stuff. There are some aches &pains also, there might be some more in the future but I’m seeking to get all I can out of life. I live it in stages and there are challenges in every age & stage. So far, being older isn’t a death sentence. Its how “YOU” see yourself not how others see you. When you get to know a person. they don’t focus on that so much. Aging for me has brought, a sense of peace & reflection, a humbling and a willingness to accept my mistakes. I care about others more & less about myself. You never know who is watching and wanting to grow older like you. So I don’t get upset about those things. Because I am old at 60 and I expect to grow even older if God is willing. I’m not afraid of the changes to my face & body as long as I can be as healthy as I can be for me. Because I still have lots of things to do. I’m going to make my old age my best age because I’m still blooming. I aim to make age look good by owning it.
Good on you Janelle. I’m in my sixties and not insulted to be called old because that is what and who I am. I’m still bodily and mentally healthy. Getting styling tips to dress age appropriate will always be interesting.

wow! finally someone who has acquired confidence…a sense of personal security…acceptance of the changes in life without all the drama and make over….I am 75 and feel the same way….the only ones who would criticize these statements would be the insecure and fearful individuals which refuse ti learn from the challenges of lifeangelea
So true…I am a seventy-nine year old woman who is.very proud of my years and I still love reading and looking at styles of today. Especially with color. Judi Dench has been such a roll model and she is 85. Thank you for this article .
Love your reply ☺

So glad I stumbled across this site! I’m 63 and It’s frustrating at times to find my style without looking too young or too old! I love the styles suggested here, as well as the “Old Lady” comment on the Christmas Day wear. I believe getting older means getting better…like fine wine! Laughter with grace is the best way to handle this inevitable process.
Thanks for your valuable comment
On target! I applaud you Diane!

Where could I buy items at No. 22 above.? Your reply will be appreciated.
I am aware these kind of articles for old ladies is insulting to us and probably your mom.. Elderly hair styles, should I go gray come on it’s 2019 . I am 75 and proud, Actually my hair started to become gray at about 28 . Dyed it until I was 40 then had it stripped so I could go gray. Actually most of my daughters friends (50’s) have taken a cue from me and have gone gray. Must say they actually look younger. Example I wear the same jeans as my daughters, and granddaughter. Age is just a number. If you were stylish when you were younger you will be stylish as a mature strong woman.
You are exactly right my friend.
I love this article. My mom was always a very classy woman and everyone admired her fashion. However, my mom passed away at 61. Now that I will be 72 Friday, am at a fashion loss. Thank you again. Now the old comment, I never use the word because I continue to attract younger men. I am seasoned.
I love 8 and 17!

Oh boy. I just turned 60 and being called an older senior lady is way too condescending. It’s just a number kids! My hair is not going in a bun anytime soon. I’ll rock the color red and those 3-1/2 inch pumps. My jeans are skinny and my skirts are too! Forget those floor skimming cardigan things! I need clothes that move, so I can keep on living life with my grandkids! There are some smart tips in this article but you lost me early on.
I agree with you Danette for us over 60 it’s our time to be happy-go-lucky so go with the fashion trends that fits to our age
Sorry to have disappointed you. We have asked the writer to update the article as per your comments.

At 75, I’m happy to be called ‘old lady’ and I aim to add to that label and be a Sassy, Classy Old Lady!!! =-)
I’m with you Sassy, Classy Lady!
Nothing wrong with being called “Glamma”. Just sayin!
Agreed! 🙂

This article would have been more inspiring if it weren’t for the fact that probably half of the outfits are shown on models who could be my grandchildren! Especially the one about clothes for “curvy” seniors.
We’ve updated the article, hope it won’t disappoint you anymore 🙂

Nothing here that I haven’t discovered for myself over the years and I certainly don’t like the expression “ old lady “ . Wrong choice of word there .

Fabulous recommendations IMO. As for the term ‘old ladies’ it personally doesn’t bother me because; as a 73 year old (and counting) , I am old and a lady but perhaps a little more secure in my self esteem than some who might be offended by being referred to as such …. ☺. To conclude; loosen up and enjoy your status.

Why do they always plus size women in black. I hate black. I love color. I wouldn’t be caught dead in black. Boring! And to me, very insulting.
It’s probably just a coincidence Davis 🙂 Of course plus size women can rock any color. We’ve added some more ideas and updated the article, I hope you’ll approve of it now 🙂

No all of us look like Helen Mirren, and the thing I found most difficult is SHOES! Most older women need comfortable shoes, longer sleeves and some of us prefer to cover our legs. I travel to the UK frequently and was hoping to find travel easy fashion outfits for plus size over 60. Love your creativiy and style, but hotflashes and painful feet need to be considered.
Thanks Hansa for your feedback. We’ll try to do a post on shoes very soon.
Thank you for thinking of us older ladies. I know your mom and grandma are proud of you. People get over yourselves life is to short. She is beautiful and young and actually thought enough of us older people to consider us ! Love it. I myself am thankful someone younger actually spend allot of time to find all the info and put it together for us. If your not then keep your negative thoughts to your self. That’s being rude and I remember when I thought 40 yrs was old. By the way I am old and loving it. The alternative is ….so appreciate it when people think about you. Its the heart of the matter. Have some manners. PC is out!
Thank you Penny for your kind words and support. Best wishes.

I lIve in Australia and am 84 years old also just love fashion particularly the above article> I am tall
5ft 7″ and weigh about 70 kgs. We don’t have as many clothing shops especially for the older fashion
generation as you have. I wear most of the garments that you have advertised, mainly black pants, long
shirts or jackets and mostly flat shoes I also like bright things. My daughter who teaches Fashion often
comments on my dressing and buys me things which she says ” this is you Mum”. Margaret D
I’m 72 and not quite plus sized (extra large) and appreciate the outfits with skirts and dresses as I can’t wear pants. At all. Ever. More suggestions for what to wear when you can’t wear pants would be appreciated. I can wear leggings for short periods if they have a gusset which are hard to fine. Thanks.
Thanks for your feedback Elizabeth. We’ll try to do a separate post for you on the different ways to wear/style skirts and dresses.

doesn’t tell m where to find the individual outfits?
Ho hum…I see many of these articles about how to dress as an older woman, and I didn’t even dress like this when I was younger. How about effortless, casual style that’s not frumpy and/or tries too hard, not so “put together”…subtle style, less is better. There were some stunning women in the article, like the woman in the gray maxi and the woman in the gray jogging suit, however, the maxi looked polyesterly uncomfortable and the gray jogging suit with scarf and awful shoes was over-styled. There’s got to be better options out there for us oldsters.
Thank you for your feedback, keep visiting.

Oh my gosh! The maxis threw me off! However all the other images other than #24( too much fabric) were spot on!
I’m 76. Articles that state find your own style, but add tips like loose tops, slimmer bottoms, or the opposite slim top loose bottoms are reminders to carefully choose your clothing. I agree with another poster- comfortable, attractive shoes are so important and often difficult to find.
Regardless thanks for the article that has proven valuable over several years.
Thank you for your kind words!
Glad to hear how it has helped.

I just turned 68 two days ago. My husband took me out to eat at a great restaurant. I wore a little dress I bought at Lord & Taylor about forty years ago. It is Size 4, and I know I still rock it!!! Two girls/women we knew from high school happened to be at the next table. I saw one of them looking me up and down, and so did my husband. My hair is long because both my husband and I like it that way. It is thick and reddish brown, and I have no intention of ever letting it go grey. Most people think I am ten to fifteen years younger than I really am. When my grandsons were little, people thought I was their mother, not their grandmother. My mother was a beautiful woman, and she taught both my daughter and me how to dress stylishly. I am retired now, and I have the time to take better care of myself than I ever did when I was working at my very stressful job. I come from good strong Irish stock, and many of the women in my family lived to be over a hundred. The oldest one was just three weeks shy of her 107th. birthday when she died. She had beautiful clothes, and she always looked great up until the very end. She I and my mother are my inspirations. I think eating well, exercising regularly, having good friends, looking great, laughing lots, believing in a Higher Power, and having great sex make all the difference in the world.
Being tiny with dyed red hair does not make you young! It may mean that you have a problem with getting old!
I think Anne Marie has hit on something! As long as she has the body for it’ WHY NOT? I’m the same way! I look younger than my 70’years. I think eating right and exercising and being with good friends make a difference, I came from a stylish family also! I can’t turn back the clock’ And I’m not trying to’ But keeping myself updated on fashion and having a good Beautician doe’s make me feel good about myself! I don’t know why some people have a problem with it? I dress in classic clothes, Not teeny Bopper duds! Staying trim and keeping myself up doesn’t mean I have an Age problem’ I just want to look my best at any age!
Thank you for your feedback Patsy. You’re absolutely right, one should stay fit, healthy and stylish at every age.

I am 65 and yes I’m old no offense taken. No need to apologize or correct any mistake the proper word was used “old”. If you are sensitive to the reality of life, you have a bigger problem. Embrace life and stop with the whining.

60’s isn’t old!!!! It was old 20 years ago but not anymore….I also think middle age is later now – say, 50’s. I’m 69 and definitely NOT old. You are only as young as you feel (and think). If you wear ‘old’ clothes then you will look old and be treated old. Many of the outfits shown are great, many are ‘safe’. I’d like to see some outfits which are a little more out there and up with the trends…Not outrageous, just a little more……Thanks
Thanks for the feedback Rosey. I definitely agree with you, age is just a number. We will tried adding more looks like the ones you want 🙂

Except for the fall and winter casual outfits featured here, the others look overdone, silly, frumpy, or as if the fashion stylist tried too hard to create a look known only to the stylist. Like many women in their 60s, I am short and petite; the majority of these outfits would look absurd on a 5′ 2″, 105 lb. woman…overwhelming! Finding clothing and accessories for women over 60 is a challenge. Finding clothing and accessories for short, petite women over 60 is nearly impossible. Unfortunately, this particular demographic is overlooked. I had high hopes for this post…I’m disappointed.
I could honestly care less what anyone thinks about what I wear and this post is a classic example of a clueless, self-appointed ‘fashion guru’.
If you honestly think that a woman over 60 magically loses her sense of taste and common sense to such a degree that she’d wear anything even remotely akin to what you’re peddling in this post, then you’re hideously mistaken.
You are the quintessential, self-appointed, utterly clueless ‘fashion guru’. A total twit, in fact.
Those of us who want something decent to wear that looks good/stylish (in our eyes) and feels comfy and fuss-free are just going to have to make them ourselves, which is exactly what I intend doing from now on.
